Eligibility

Housing Justice Center represents organizations and groups of low-income renters in impact litigation.

HJC focuses on impact litigation. Outside of unique projects and initiatives (Renter Reclaim the Record), we generally do not represent individual clients on individual matters, but instead take cases that other organizations cannot do, including fair housing and human rights act class actions, consumer fraud cases, habitability issues, and cases related to affordable housing regulatory structures.

HJC will on occasion take individual cases if it is in support of broader organization strategic efforts and related to one of our impact cases or necessary or furthers broader systemic housing justice outcomes.

HJC will only take cases if we can be an effective advocate. We acknowledge the limits of our organization’s capacity and strive to grow to meet the need, but we will not take cases if we do not have the resources and expertise to provide high-quality legal representation.
